PHAETON PIANO TRIO

ST. PAUL’S BY-THE-SEA EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Phaeton Piano Trio brings internationally renowned Friedemann Eichhorn, violin; Peter Horr, cello; and Florian Uhlig, piano, to the series with phenomenal music of the ages.

THE ARTISTS

The Phaeton Trio fascinated with its joy of music-making and its beguilingly beautiful ensemble sound. Not by chance did the trio name itself after the son of the Greek Sun God Helios. Phaeton, the shining one, drove his father’s sun chariot harnessed with four fiery steeds across the sky during the day, returning at night to the sea. As demanding as the name is, so fantastic is the ensemble.”  (Ipf-und Jagsd Zeitung)

Peter Hörr, cellist
Florian Uhlig, piano

The Phaeton Piano Trio unites three top German artists of international standing, Friedemann Eichhorn, Peter Hörr and Florian Uhlig, to form one of the most exciting piano trios on the international concert scene. As successful soloists for over twenty years, they are at home on the big stages in Europe, overseas and Asia, and have already performed in major European music capitals.

The Phaeton Piano Trio celebrated its South American debut in Fundación Beethoven, Santiago de Chile and made another debut in the USA in 2020 with concerts at the Library of Congress, Washington and the Frick Collection, New York. In 2023 and 2024, the Phaeton Piano Trio toured the USA again, and for the first time in 2023, they also performed in Canada. The trio has a large repertoire ranging from Haydn, Beethoven, and Dvořák to Wolfgang Rihm. In 2023/2024, they recorded French piano trios by Saint-Saens, Fauré, and Huré.

Friedemann Eichhorn

Friedemann Eichhorn, violinist, has collaborated with the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin, the Deutsche Radio-Philharmonie, the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia di Roma, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and many other orchestras under conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach or Sir Antonio Pappano. He has a close collaboration with Fazil Say, for whom he premiered the Second Violin Sonata and Violin Concerto No. 2. Eichhorn has over 30 CDs as a soloist and chamber musician for the Naxos and Hänssler Classic labels, which have received numerous awards. Eichhorn teaches as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and is the Artistic Director of the Kronberg Academy.

Peter Hörr

Peter Hörr, cellist, has been a guest soloist, chamber musician, and conductor at important concerts and festivals in Europe for over 25 years. He has a discography with Gramophone “Editors choice,” ECHO Klassik prize, and OPUS KLASSIK awards. In the 23-24 season, after a highly acclaimed release of the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven for the label Ars-Vobiscum, a next release with Schubert‘s “Arpeggione” Sonata will complete a series of “artistic research” with historical instruments. Hörr teaches as a professor of cello and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik + Theater “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy,” Leipzig.

Florian Uhlig

Florian Uhlig has completed his recording of Robert Schumann’s piano solo works for the label Hänssler Classic. The 19-volume edition, which contains numerous first recordings, was awarded the Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2021 and an OPUS KLASSIK 2022. Additionally, in October 2023, Uhlig received the Schumann Prize from the city of Zwickau. Besides his professorship at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, he is dedicated to concerts, including at the Konzerthaus Wien and Wigmore Hall in London.
