The Artist

Art has been my obsession and profession all of my life.  Inspiration and mentorship by Northeast Florida pottery legends Charles M. Brown, a master Raku artist, and inventor and potter, Lee Shank, led to my studies both in Jacksonville and at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Penland School of Craft in the Smokey Mountains.

In 1979, I established my first pottery studio and gallery in the historic Five Points area of Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood and began teaching art at local private schools and through various art grant programs.  By this time, I was also exhibiting in many galleries and fine art shows.  Numerous awards earned include Best of Show and First Place within the Southeast region.  My many styles and techniques utilized include tortured surface (textured porcelain vases and sculptures), horsehair Raku, under-glazed illustrated porcelain, and carved stoneware vessels.

In addition to its outstanding concerts and educational outreach programs, BFAS also presents an art exhibition from a regional visual artist at each home concert.

Works are showcased at the concert and at the reception following each concert. Concert attendees are able to meet the artists at the reception. The exhibition remains in place for several weeks and works are available for purchase.
