The Artist

I grew up in Northeast Florida, majored in textile design at Florida State University, taught high school art in Duval and St. Johns counties, and live in Jacksonville today. I was a National Board-Certified teacher and a two-time Teacher of the Year as well as a Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Scholar where I studied painting in Colorado.  Many of my former students have become art teachers, art professors and art collectors around the country.

My artwork has exhibited locally at Word Revolt Gallery, FemArt, The Art Center, Florida State College South Campus, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, Reddi Arts and nationally at the Electronic Gallery 2000 out of Los Angeles, California, at Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and at High on Fiber in Mesa, Arizona.   I was named by Florida Craft as a New Face for a New Decade, and my work is in the collection of the City of Orlando.

My‌ paintings are ‌a snapshot of the drama found in one’s backyard garden.‌ ‌I‌ study ‌the‌ ‌types of relationships‌ ‌between‌ ‌the‌ ‌plants ‌and‌ ‌animals‌ ‌and‌ ‌how‌ ‌they‌ ‌work‌ ‌together‌ ‌or against each other to‌ ‌survive.‌ My paintings are about the lives of the animals, birds and insects, the plants, weeds, and flowers that I spend so much time with.  Their lives may be rather short-lived but they seem to mirror human relationships and characteristics.  I spend a few hours every day working in the yard and then I freeze a moment in the studio painting with bold colors, observed and imagined patterns and purposeful lines like the ones I admire on textiles and wallpaper.
