The Artist

Painting is a solitary endeavor, but growing as an artist is not. All good painters must remain students at heart. Over the last few years I allowed permission for trial and error in oil painting.

I was born in Nashville, and coming from (then conservative and hillbilly) area of the south, I had to find my own way.

Late in my 40’s after commissioned sketches all of young life,I found my artistic voice, but I am still a student. My work has become recognizable to collectors, which is a gift. My use of transparent oils and large brushes are the way I block in the beginning of my paintings, building color, finding light and sculpting the composition. My one stroke method allows for a more contemporary style.

I like to share what I have learned along the way, but also allow my students to have a sense of adventure when painting with me! I love color that is built over time with my one stroke method. My works are usually oversized, or life size of a horse, my ballet figures are normally life size. My portraits are full of light.

Every day as an artist is an adventure, and I won’t spin my wheels. My studio is my private world to develop what I’ll share with you!
