About the Artist
William McMahan grew up in Urbana, IL, before receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing/Printmaking from Washington University in St Louis. He then enrolled in graduate school at Indiana University in the Printmaking Program. During this time, he studied human anatomy and figure drawing, taught Drawing Fundamentals for two years, and eventually earned an Master of Fine Arts Degree in Printmaking in 2010. After moving to Jacksonville in 2011 with his wife Summer, he met Craig Erskine, the founder of the Art League of Jacksonville, and began teaching with the League shortly thereafter. He currently manages the Art League’s Murray Hill Arts Center, where he teaches Drawing, Portrait Drawing, Printmaking and Illustration. William also teaches at Reddi Arts, and the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedre. William has been working on an expansive series of abstracted figurative etchings for many years, and he has recently been working on brush pen drawings titled “Motion Studies.” In this series, William is creating rhythmic and energetic images suggestive of many forms.
