Each concert season, the presenting Visual Artists submit work to be reviewed by a panel of judges at the Juried Art Show which is held at our annual Patron Appreciation Party. The Patron Appreciation Party is given as a thank you to our wonderful supporters who donate $600 or more to Beaches Fine Arts Series. Marsha’s piece was unanimously voted the winner, and we are thrilled to highlight her work on our 2017-2018 Season Trifold Schedule and the Season Program Booklet.
About the Artist
Marsha Hatcher is a native of South Georgia who has lived, worked and created art in Jacksonville, Florida, for over 25 years. Marsha has always considered herself an artist and believes her passion to create art is truly a gift from God. As a child, Marsha was extremely shy and found comfort in creating art and to this day, it has been an effective way of coping with her shyness. The love for art is the only thing in her life that has not changed. Shortly after receiving her art degree from ASU, she began a lifelong goal of creating art. A very private right brained introvert with a unique sense of humor and a fondness for children is part of who she is. To know her is to know her art. Marsha prefers to paint people but also enjoys landscapes, abstracts and sculpting. Painting people in close ups allows most viewers to focus on the eyes of each painting, which the artist believes is a window into the soul. One of the techniques that is often seen in her work is the use of white paint or pencil on a black or dark background. This approach allows the artist to focus more on the many details and values found throughout her work. Marsha draws much of her inspiration from artists such as Aaron Douglas, Picasso, Rembrandt, Davinci, Charles White and Elizabeth Catlett, just to name a few. Hatcher’s work was recently on exhibit at The Cummer Museum, currently at The Makerspace Gallery (Main Library), and permanently on display at The Art Center.
