About the Artist
“I have been an artist my entire life. My earliest memories of childhood were drawing with my father and I have never stopped. I get excited about the process of stumbling upon a scene or an idea and then getting to work creating my interpretation of that inspiration.
I have intently concentrated on pleinair painting for the past forty years because it gives me endless subject matter and allows me to work out in nature. I enjoy the personal challenge to capture the fleeting moments of light in a constantly changing environment. Recording the history of our landscape is an important component and making contributions to preserving the landscape and culture of this world brings me great satisfaction. My plan is to continue to grow, study, and work.”
Charles Dickinson, a Connecticut native now making his home in Florida, has six years of traditional education as well as dedicating his life to the study of art. That study includes over a decade of participating in invitational and juried plein air painting events. He is inspired by the challenges of painting new landscapes with limited time and the opportunity to paint alongside his peers. He also enjoys the opportunity to bring awareness and contribute what he can to the environmental or cultural causes that these events often benefit.
He is an award-winning artist whose most recent awards in 2017 have been “Second Place” at Plein Air Richmond and the Emmett Fritz Award for Best Oil Painting in the Honors Show, in 2016 his painting won “Best of Show” Jean Wagner Troemel Award at the Spring Members Show and “First Place” for his painting “Reclamation” in the Honors Show, in 2015 he was awarded “First Place” at Paradise Paint Out Quickdraw, Islamorada, FL, and “Honorable Mention” at theLighthouse Art Center Plein Air Festival in Tequesta, FL.
Charles continues to be inspired by the landscape and hopes to show on canvas his love of nature and possibly inspire viewers to take another look at their surroundings.
